Youth leaders from EarthEcho International joined North Shore Community Land Trust for a volunteer workday at Kalaeokaunaʻoa (Kahuku Point) on Tuesday, June 29, 2021. Youth leaders and community volunteers got their hands dirty removing invasive weeds and planting native plants to help restore this coastal dune ecosystem. Participants were able to see the mōlī (Laysan albatross; Phoebastria immutabilis) chicks preparing to fledge and learn how restoring coastal habitat helps seabirds and other marine wildlife. Participants came from Kailua, Mililani, Makakilo and one even flew in from the Big Island! This event is part of an ongoing series of youth-driven coastal restoration projects organized through the OceanEcho 30x30 campaign. A special thanks to the North Shore Community Land Trust for their partnership and support!
